In person counselling involves private face to face sessions in a calming environment. The first session is focused on getting to know the client, gaining a better understanding of the presenting issues and concerns.

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored its significance, serving as both an entry point to therapy and a valuable supplement to traditional face-to-face sessions. In today’s digital age, technology has seamlessly integrated into our daily routines, assuming a pivotal role in maintaining our mental health and overall well-being.

 

The convenience of mobile devices such as phones, tablets, and laptops enables easy access to therapeutic services from the comfort of one’s home. This is particularly beneficial for individuals residing in rural areas with limited local therapy resources or those facing mobility or transportation obstacles.

Walk & Talk Counselling

Combining psychotherapy with walking in nature adds a wealth of benefits to
maximize the efficacy of the therapeutic process. Throughout the process you will
exercise both mind and body and when combined with the healing potential
of nature, creates an ideal setting for therapeutic exploration, interventions,
and personal growth.

 

Thirty minutes in the outdoors is enough to significantly reduce cortisol levels
increase levels of self- esteem, improve mood, reduce mental fatigue and
lower stress. We experience a physiological effect from exercise due to the
body releasing endorphins which gives us a natural mood boost.

Most clients find the natural environment less intimidating – walking side by
side means that the intensity of continuous eye contact is lessened. This can be
particularly helpful to clients with any kind of neurodivergence. I have specialist training in Autism Informed Therapy and extensive experience working with a variety of atypical neurological presentations. Throughout a walk & talk session, there may be pauses. These moments offer opportunities to connect with the natural surroundings — be it the sky, the sea, or the surrounding trees — fostering a heightened sense of presence. Walk & Talk Therapy takes place at Portmarnock Beach and lasts 50 minutes. If time allows , the session closes with sand writing.
